I love to blog and I love finding plugins that make my blog better and blogging easier. Here are a few plugins that I’ve discovered over the years that I’ve fallen head over heels for.

Askimet

The king of anti-spam on Word Press. Akismet checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not. It requires an account, but stops around 99% of spam comments.

Conditional CAPTCHA for WordPress

This is a CAPTCHA plugin that piggy backs off of services like Askimet. If your spam blocker detects something as spam, this plugin takes over and prompts the user/bot to enter in a captcha code. The comment will still get logged in spam, but this greatly reduces the amount of spam for you to sift through and reduces the amount that gets through the filter. Regular users will never even see this.

SexyBookmarks

SexyBookmarks great option for embedding links to social bookmarking services, twitter, facebook, and more. It’s highly configurable and looks great! My only gripe with this plugin is it can be a bit slow sometimes.

Yet Another Related Posts Plugin

Highly configurable plugin for displaying related posts in your blog posts. YARPP is great for keeping readers on your blog.

WP-Syntax

For developers this is awesome. WP-Syntax does syntax highlighting for just about every major to minor programming language out there. It also provides line numbering and scrolling for keeping things easy on the readers eyes.

I know I said I was posting my top 5, but I’m adding in a sixth. The last one is the All in One SEO Pack. Its an easy to use plugin for changing the Meta Title and Meta Description of your blog posts.
